Church for the perfect

"I'd like to go back to church, but I need to get my ducks in a row first."

Have you ever heard some say something like this? I find it odd that there are people with a viewpoint of the church being where you go when you have everything together, when in reality the church is where you should be while your getting your life in order. So the question is, why do people think this?

When faced with "church people" who are "perfect" it is easy for people who are far from perfect to develop this viewpoint. So are we making it harder for God to work in the lives of people when we adopt this attitude of perfection within the church? Can you see how not being real and authentic can prevent people from seeking God, when they think they have to get straight first?

Look at what God tells us in Psalm 34:18: "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." God wants to work in the live of the brokenhearted, the forgotten, and lost. We have to stop relying on our own strength and give our lives to Christ. He is the one who can change us, not anyone else, including our self.

The church has to stop pretending to be something it is not, and be real and honest with people, sharing the glory of Christ. Apart from Him we all fall short. We need Christ, why pretend like we don't?
